Howard Quinlivan is a Senior Associate based out of the London office, and qualified as a Solicitor in 2008 and as a Solicitor Advocate in 2012. His practice covers all aspects of the marine world from loss of life and personal injury in the shipping, yachting and fishing communities to other contractual disputes, collisions and liabilities in the leisure craft and commercial sector. He advises insurers in respect of subrogated claims in these areas as well as individual and corporate owners. He has advised insurers and their assureds in respect of Health & Safety prosecutions concerning fatalities and serious injuries, EL / PL claims, and has a good working knowledge of ports and terminals and the associated liabilities they face.

Howard is also a qualified RYA Yachtmaster, qualified New Entrant commercial fisherman and has worked regularly as a correspondent to clubs and insurers in respect of attendance on shipping vessels in the UK and Europe, having worked on several claims in respect of cargo damage / loss / stowage and recovery. He has regularly spoken at internal training seminars for various clubs and insurers focusing on people injury and casualty issues; most recently providing guidance and seminars to the TT Club, UK Club, ITIC , North Sea Operators Claims Conference (NSOCC) and BPA conferences. Howard competes in amateur surfing, sailing and fell-running competitions throughout the UK.

Howard is a native English speaker and can speak conversational French and German.

  • Marine debt recovery including; the arrest of defaulting vessels on behalf of mortgagees, and the preservation and enforcement of maritime liens.
  • Commercial charter party dispute relating to failure to deliver.
