EU Commission Presents Proposal of a New Data Act | ZFZ Postcard Cases

The European Commission recently released the proposal of a new “Data Act”.

This Data Act will clarify who is entitled to use data collected by connected objects (“Internet of Things”) such as smartphones, household appliances, voiced-controlled consumer electronics, cars, etc. The implementation of the Act can potentially bring significant business operations changes for manufacturers of such IoT products, as the Act is planned to grant users the right to access the data generated.

The draft additionally contains an obligation of cloud services to be interoperable, ensuring an effective and easy switch between cloud providers.

The legislative procedure of the Data Act has only just begun. We will keep you updated with any future developments.
