Miguel Caballero is a dually qualified Abogado (Spain) and Solicitor (England & Wales) who mainly assists P&I Clubs, ship owners and ship operators in all sorts of dry and wet shipping matters.

He has gained previous shipping law experience in two IGP&I Clubs, in the claims department of a ship owner, in private practice and in the claims and insurance department of a ship operator.

Earlier in his career, he worked for two Spanish boutique law firms specialised in employment law and in an NGO specialised in human rights law.

Miguel read Law at the Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao, Spain, and obtained a Master Degree in International Trade Law from the University of Essex.

He is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, the Spanish Maritime Law Association and the LSLC – YMP Committee.

  • Assistance to a tanker owners with the handling of a marine incident involving the contact with a pier and an oil spill in Ecuador.
  • Assistance to a ferry owner with the handling of an incident involving a fire on board in Chile.
  • Assistance to a bulk carrier operator in a USD1m+ dispute before the LMAA arising under the Head and Sub-charterparties as a result of a Covid-19 outbreak on board.
  • Assistance to a bulk carrier operator in a dispute with Head Owners and Sub-Charterers arising as a result of the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
  • Assistance to a bulk carrier operator in a dispute before the LMAA resulting from crane and grab issues during cargo opertions.
  • Assistance to a tanker operator with a bunker quality dispute with Head Owners and Bunker Sellers.
  • Assistance to a bulk carrier operator with a speed and performance dispute with Head Owners.
  • Assistance to a ship owner in a dispute with Charterers before the LMAA arising as a result of an invokation of a Force Majeure clause and subsequent cancellation of the Charterparty.

  • Assistance to a bulk carrier operator with a dispute with Head Owners and Sub-Charterers arising as a result of an explosion in one of the holds.

  • Assistance to a tugboat owner with in a collision dispute arising pursuant to a harbour towage contract.
